I am Steve Wilkinson aka "WheelchairSteve", founder of the Accessible Restaurants website. I am in my mid 50s and
have been disabled since birth with Spina Bifida.
I live in Newcastle upon Tyne and drive an adapted Citroen Grand Picasso.
I have good upper body strength and can walk a little with sticks, but spend most of my time, when out and about, in
a manual wheelchair.
I have a Quickie Easimax wheelchair, which is 100cm long from back of wheels to front of foot plate and 70cm
wide from wheel rim to wheel rim.
I am passionate about trying to help other disabled people, hence the reason I set up this site both to share information
about accessible places to eat and drink, and to raise money through "The WheelchairSteve Fund" to raise money for disabled
children.
Please help me achieve my aims. Although I've told you who I am, the information that will be published about you need
not be so detailed. What's important is the nature of your disability and the kind and size of wheelchair or scooter
you use. Then other people with similar disabilities and equipment may be able to assess the suitability of an establishment
based on your comments.
