I haven't actually eaten in this bar/bistro, but identified it as a possible place to do so when searching in the area.
There is no designated parking for the Atlantic, but it is only 50 yards away from a car park adjacent to the ShopMobility
office in South Shields. There are also streets nearer with yellow lines where it may be possible to park if displaying
Blue Badge.
While the entrance is level, there are steps down to the eating area. However, after attracting the attention
of the manager, I learnt there was an alternative access at the side of the building through a fire door. I suggested
to the manager that it may be appropriate to add some signage and a door bell/buzzer to attract attention, so they can help
disabled visitors enter the premises.
Once inside, the eating and drinking area was spacious.
There was an accessible toilet. I suggested to the manager that it may be appropriate to add a better lock,
as it is currently a small bolt, which may be problematic for someone with dexterity issues. The door is also currently
spring loaded, and it may be appropriate to provide a grab rail on the back of the door to assist a wheelchair user in closing
the door.
